WINNERS OF 2021 EAST COAST MUSIC AWARDS UNVEILED; NEON DREAMS SNAGS ALBUM OF THE YEAR

HALIFAX — Classified, Les Hay Babies, Maxim Cormier, Rich Aucoin and Rose Cousins have emerged as the big winners of the 2021 East Coast Music Awards, snagging two of Atlantic Canada’s biggest music prizes each.

The awards were announced Sunday evening as part of a show hosted by Heather Rankin and livestreamed on the ECMA’s social media platforms.

Top accolades went to Halifax’s Neon Dreams for album of the year, Prince Edward Island’s Catherine MacLellan for songwriter of the year and Cape Breton’s Beolach for fans’ choice entertainer of the year.

New to the awards this year was the category of African Canadian artist of the year,

GLACE BAY, N.S. — We could all use a bit of comic relief right now, so a show featuring some of Cape Breton’s best female talent might be just what the doctor ordered.

It’s been two years since Island Girls hit the stage at the Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay. Now, the Island Girls are back — and they’re looking to hit just the right note.

Pushed back because of the pandemic, the show will now go on, but with a twist.

TRURO, N.S. — A simple, poignant church service in Truro on Sunday gave the families and so many others an opportunity to remember, reflect, and honour the lives of those who were killed one year ago.

Quintessentially Nova Scotian, it was the sound of the pipes that welcomed families to First United Church, a rare opportunity to come together in a place reserved only for them.

After a brief welcome, there was two full minutes of silence in memory of 22 lives lost and an unborn baby a year ago,

Friday August 23rd is themed Hip Hop/Rock with Juno & ECMA award winner Classified headlining. Additional acts on August 23rd include Halifax Rocker Christine Campbell, Cape Breton’s jam band Slowcoaster, Halifax ECMA winning electrotonic duo Pineo & Loeb and more. Special appearances by singers Andrew Hunter and teen pop rising star Maura Witman.

Saturday August 24th is Roots/Maritime featuring Great Big Sea singer Alan Doyle as the headliner. Doyle will be joined on the bill by Cape Breton’s Heather Rankin,

Heather Rankin will be performing at the Bridgewater Best Western on Friday, November 9 at 8pm. Doors will open at 7:15 p.m.
General admission with theatre seating.

Tickets will be available to the general public for purchase at the Centre early September (+ other locations + online) and will be $37.50.
