Several local acts among 2017 ECMA nominees

A number of local artists are up for East Coast Music Awards.

The 2017 ECMA nominees were announced Tuesday.

Mabou’s Heather Rankin is up for Folk Recording of the Year for A Fine Line.

Also, the music video for her song “We Walk As One” was nominated in the Fans’ Choice Video of the Year category.

The Town Heroes (Inverness Co.) have been nominated for Group Recording of the Year for Please, Everyone; the video for their song, “Outer Space” (directed by Dillon Garland), is up for Video of the Year.

Donald MacLennan of Antigonish earned a Jazz Recording of the Year nomination for Belleville.

Unidentified Funk Object’s Space Funk Party is up for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year, while Carols by Còig (Inverness Co.) is nominated for Roots/Traditional Recording of the Year.

Andrea Beaton has been nominated in the Traditional Instrumental Recording of the Year category for With Betty and Dave.

The Stanfields are up for Fans’ Choice Entertainer of the Year.

Several people and events in the Quad Counties also earned consideration for industry awards.

GroundSwell Music is nominated for Company of the Year and Management/Manager of the Year, while the Celtic Colours International Festival is in the running for Event of the Year.

Stephen “Snickers” Smith of Mabou has been nominated for Live Sound Engineer of the Year, and Guysborough’s Jon Landry is up for Producer of the Year.

The winners will be announced on April 27 in Saint John.
